Obtaining an Ultra-Light Permit is the fastest and easiest route to braving the sky and enjoying the experience of flying. The Ultra-Light Pilot will have proven knowledge of the fundamentals of airmanship, navigation and communication. It is also easy to upgrade to a Recreational Pilot Permit as all dual and solo flight time acquired in ultra-light aeroplanes can be credited towards the experience requirement for Recreational Pilot Permit application.

Transport Canada's required minimums for Ultra-Light Permit is 10 hours total flight training. However, since Sea Land Air Flight Centre operates from an airport within Class C airspace, and we also train in an advanced ultra-light aircraft (the SportStar) equipped with an advanced avionic system including transponders and GPS, therefore we will train students to a higher standard so as to assure safe operation of a SportStar aircraft in a Class C airspace. Accordingly, students should expect to fly a minimum of 25 hours training in the SportStar, and to have obtained the Radio Operators Certificate (Restricted). In addition, ICAO regulations require pilots to pass an English Proficiency examination prior to operating in controlled airspace.
